Is eating well at work the secret of happiness ?


It is fact: our diet changes many thing on the way we live, it is our fuel, that allow us to live and that give us the necessary energy for that. Our mental and physical faculties depend about what we eat, and many factors come in the balance: the moment we eat, how, which quantity,  etc…
We are going to focus on one point we know very well; the lunch at work, a very particular moment but a very important one.

We spend most of our time on our work place. When it is time to lunch at work, about 40% of Canadian workers are eating on their desk, and 36% of the Quebecers are eating lunch alone in front of their computer. (Study runes by the Nova Scotia’s Dalhousie University (2017)). However, this is a very important moment in a worker day because it has a direct link on his productivity. In addition to what is on our plate, it is mainly the way we eat that will have consequences. Then, is it better to eat quickly at your desk to be productive, as most of the Quebecers do ?

Here are some advices about the good habits to take during your lunch to increase your wellbeing at work:

First of all, it’s a well known fact, but taking a good breakfast is essential, it is an important meal for the rest of your day, it will give to you the energy you need, at least until your lunch. Then, you need to eat enough, a meal too small will not bring you all the nutrients you need to last all the day. Also, a meal too big will slow your digestion and make you sleepy and tired. The most important is to take a real break. Take the time to eat with your colleagues and to leave your work space. It will free your mind and allow you to get to know your colleagues even more, which can lead to a better atmosphere.
If you can, try to go out and take some fresh air, it will help you to forget about work for a while, give your brain some rest, and that will help you being more creative and productive after.
